About Karen Roertgen
Welcome to my webpage! My name is Karen and by way of introduction I’m going to share about myself and my coaching. I look forward to getting to know you.
People often reach out to me initially because they realize they are being prevented from achieving what they desire by the practical day to day challenges of ADHD- organizing, scheduling, addressing memory and focus, attending (listening or noticing), decision-making or other executive function difficulties- or not eating, sleeping, or exercising well. These are truly foundational aspects of life for us all, and improvement in these areas sets us up for a healthy, successful life.
In coaching I help you identify the particular emotions, beliefs or behaviors that are blocking you from getting what you desire and replace them with more helpful practices. We will also explore how you can maintain these practices, which as you know, can also be challenging. As you experience yourself growing in your capabilities and experiencing your desired goals, your negative inner story begins to change also. You develop more confidence and improved self-esteem.
You may also be wanting to learn new ways of communicating, how to have more nourishing relationships, or how to be less emotionally reactive at home or work. Many people with ADHD don’t realize how much emotional regulation or communication is affected by ADHD, and find relief in having a safe place to in which to address it.
My areas of focus include:
- Individuals over 17: Developing strategies and structures which support you.
- Transitioning into college, career, other transitions: Dealing with change, overwhelm, harvesting your experiences, developing your gifts and skills.
- Entrepreneurship: Exploring, planning, executing, developing your entrepreneurial strengths and skills.
- Relationships- Couples, friendships and work relationships: Understanding the impact of ADHD on relationship building, developing strategies together to strengthen communication and create realistic, functional patterns of being together.
- Communication: Learning and practicing more effective communication skills.
- Emotional Intelligence: Understanding how ADHD affects emotions, managing your emotions, dealing with rejection sensitivity.
- ADHD and Professional Leadership Development: Tailored to your circumstance, please reach out for more details.
- Get Educated about ADHD: Individual sessions for people who just want to learn about ADHD and are not ready for coaching, such as individuals who have recently been diagnosed, parents, teachers or employers who want to understand how to work more effectively with their ADHD employee.
- Presentations on ADHD to Communities, Businesses, Organizations: These are tailored to your needs.
A Little About Myself
I began working with people and families who live with ADHD 15 years ago, when, as a Marriage and Family Therapy Licensed Professional Counselor, I started a distinctive private practice devoted to those living with ADHD. I did this in part because someone in my family lives with ADHD and I realized how difficult it was to get good information and services that would truly be effective for those living with ADHD. I hold master’s level certification in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, am an ADDCA-certified ADHD Coach and a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation. I am trained in Somatics, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Collaborative Problem-solving, Consensus Building, and am a Certified Parenting Instructor. I hold two Doctorates in medicine and three Masters degrees. I am happy to provide you with more details.
My hobbies involve hiking, permaculture gardening, farming, learning (always!), poetry and painting, and helping small towns and their businesses to prosper.
Finally, my goal is that you engage your life with courage, competence, and confidence.
I look forward to connecting!

Testimonials
“As the mother of a daughter with ADHD, I was at my wits end. I needed help for both of us. After speaking with my doctor, he recommended ‘coaching’ for her. I did quite a bit of research and was really impressed with Karen’s profile. Karen has been a lifesaver for me and a tremendous help for my daughter. It’s a work in progress but thanks to Karen she is progressing. ”
